THE MATERIAL
AVAILABLE AND RECYCLABLE
Our ceilings are made from basalt, a raw material that can be found in abundance in the natural environment.
The stone wool that we use is fully recyclable, and the vast majority of our production waste is recycled.
When used as insulation material, stone wool can save more than 100 times the energy used during its manufacture. It also reduces the greenhouse gas emissions from the buildings in which it has been installed.
HEALTHY
Saint-Gobain Eurocoustic stone wool is made from non-classified fibers and is certified by EUCEB (European Certification Board for Mineral Wool Products - www.euceb.org). Products are made with fibers conforming to the mark Q from the European Directive 97/69/EC and the Regulation 1272/2008.
EUCEB guarantees that exoneration tests have been conducted in accordance with European protocols, that manufacturers have implemented control procedures during their production processes and that third parties check and approve the results.
INSULATING
Good thermal insulation helps maintain a steady temperature inside buildings, irrespective of the outside temperature.
A good thermal insulation is necessary as it helps to improve the quality of life for occupants and reduce energy use, while preserving the environment. Stone wool is an inherently excellent thermal insulator with a thermal conductivity value between 0.033 and 0.040 watts per meter-kelvin (W/m.K). Stonewool is used in buildings with the highest thermal performance.
Our Acoustished®, Acoustished® CV and Tonga® Therm ranges are certified by ACERMI (French certification organization for insulation materials).
This certification guarantees the thermal performance of our products by providing reliable and verified information.
It meets current French thermal regulation requirements (RT 2012), thereby ensuring that our clients are entitled to tax deductions on their thermal insulation expenditure. For more information, refer to our data sheets. Our ACERMI certificates are also available at www.acermi.com/isolants-certifies.
ACOUSTIC
Stone wool's structure helps reduce noise, especially airborne noise.
STABILITY IN HUMID ENVIRONMENTS
The stone wool produced by Eurocoustic is naturally non-hydrophilic, meaning that it is resistant to water and humidity. Our products do not absorb water and remain perfectly flat and stable in humid environments.
SAFE
Eurocoustic stone wool offers one of the highest performance levels in terms of passive fire protection: it does not fuel the fire or spread the flames. Its properties make it a non-combustible material with the ability to resist temperatures exceeding 1,000°C without generating any toxic fumes. Stone wool is particularly used in buildings to improve fire protection performance.
STONE WOOL MANUFACTURING PROCESS
Stone wool is made from basaltic stone. It contains natural raw materials, including basalt, coke and other recycled raw materials.
Stone wool is manufactured by a highly sophisticated six-step process:
- Preparation
The raw materials are introduced into a cupola or electric oven.
- Fusion
The raw materials are melted in the cupola or electric oven at a temperature over 1,500°C.
- Fiber drawing
Fibers are drawn by projecting the mixture over a series of rotors (rotating parts of a machine) at high speed. A binder is then atomized on the fibers.
- Creping
An arm stacks the stone wool perpendicularly on a mat underneath. Batting allows an increase of the numbers of layers for a wide range of basis weights. Rollers compress the stone wool blanket to the required thickness.
- Polymerization
After creping, the oven blows hot air to polymerize the stone wool, which gives the blanket its final thickness and consistency.
- Cutting
The blanket is cut to the required dimensions.
